ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – As Shirley Story walked slowly toward a wall bearing the names of Arlington’s fallen police officers and firefighters, she recalled how much she missed her son.

“I’m having to deal with a lot of things that come with losing him,” said the mother of officer Craig Story. “I miss him. I wish he were here right now.”

Officer Story was killed in January of 2010 when his police motorcycle collided with a school bus. His service and the service of other fallen officers were remembered by the city of Arlington with a tribute to those killed in the line of duty.

“I see in the facial expressions of the families some evidence of pride and I see some evidence of sympathy and sorrow as well,” said Arlington Police Chief Theron Bowman.

Another name was added this year to the memorial wall in Arlington’s Heroes ParkOfficer Jillian Smith was shot to death while responding to a domestic violence call in late December.  It’s been just over four months since she lost her life and her family still remains closely guarded.

Wednesday night’s memorial service was scheduled for Heroes Park, but was forced indoors because of rain. Nearly 60 friends, family members and fellow police officers attended the annual service that honors the men and women of Arlington who make the ultimate sacrifice.
